Job Description

Our client is a shipowner looking for a Project Manager to be part of their VLCC new building team based in South Korea.

You will oversee the newbuilding of VLCCs project, based in a Korea shipyard, and lead a team on-site, with the following main responsibilities:

  • Coordinate activities with all departments involved with the new vessels during the development of their design and construction
  • Evaluate any requested specification changes/modifications with Builder and submit concerns to add or remove any requests in terms of cost, weight and vessel building schedule.
  • Keep track of cost and specification adjustments.
  • Evaluate progress of project and the production/construction stages and prepare reports for the Shipping Manager and Managing Director.
  • Lead and provide overall direction to the team on the day-to-day administrative and reporting details of the projects.
  • Utilizes project management tools and industrial engineering techniques to develop and oversee the maintenance of project scope; customer and executive expectations as well as overall project focus.
  • Acts as the liaison between the Site office(s) and HQ, serving as the single point of contact for collecting and sharing requested information between parties.

The right candidate has a Class 1 Marine Engineering Certificate, degree in marine engineering or naval architecture and must have a minimum of 10 years relevant work experience within the Tanker segment and a proven track record in handling complex VLCC New building projects in a shipyard.

You must also possess strong business acumen and be able to make critical decisions. With good knowledge of latest tanker ship design, production methods and applicable rules and regulations, you will need to have strong negotiation skills and prior experience in managing a team of Technical Experts.

Excellent communication skills in English are essential & willingness to stay in South Korea for a minimum of 12 months.
